To demonstrate the low cost technology of Vermicompost preparation

To provide training and guidance to the farmer to establish Vermicompost project at their own farm.

To provide good quality Vermicompost to KVK farm and also to the farmers for demonstration at their own farm.
KVK has 75 x 23 feet sized Vermicompost unit. It has Tin shed with steel angles & shahabadi tiles floor with 3 inch drainage line on both side to collect extra watering and reuse it. This shade has 4 tons capacity in one tourn with 10 beds of 10 x 8 feet size in 2 ½ months period. The unit has demonstration of Bed & cage method of Vermicompost preparation. Cages are of different types i.e. cage with angles and mesh, angles with nylon rope, angles with Bamboo sticks and nylon bags etc. This unit has collection of Eiseniae fotida species of Earthworm.
About 12 tons of Vermicompost and 100 kg earthworms are produced per year in this units. Vermicompost produced is used in KVK farm and also provided to some farmers on their demand. The Earthworms are made available to farmer to start Vermicompost unit at their own farm.
About 250 farmers and farmer women are trained on Vermicompost preparation and 50 vermicompost units are started from this unit till March, 2008. |
